Orin Swift Cellars Mercury Head Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

The 2023 Mercury Head is Orin Swift’s flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from select vineyards in Napa Valley, including Morisoli and Stagecoach, emphasizing the winery’s commitment to high-quality grapes and exceptional winemaking. This vintage is crafted entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon and aged for 13 months in French oak, with approximately 52–53% new barrels. The wine has an alcohol content of 15.5%.

In the glass, the 2023 Mercury Head displays an opaque core with a neon crimson rim. The nose opens with blackcurrant, Amarena cherry, California chaparral, cedar, vanilla, and subtle oak.  On the palate, it is rich and layered, revealing ripe blue fruits, blood orange, dark chocolate, rhubarb, black cherry, plum skin, fig, and boysenberry compotes, complemented by graphite, cocoa, black olive, and tobacco leaf.  Tannins are fully integrated and velvety, providing structure and balance, while acidity ensures a palate-cleansing finish.
