From the makers at Matchbook Wines, allow us to introduce their brand made in Dunnigan Hills, California, Tinto Rey. The warm, dry climate is ideal for their production of Spanish wines and this brand that "focuses on Iberian varietals". Nathan from Blue Ridge Beverage will be pouring the line up and talking all about Tinto Rey!

"Why Tinto Rey?

Born in Spain. Raised in California. Tinto Rey means Red King and is the name of our Spanish-centric wines. The Dunnigan Hills appellation is uniquely suited for grapes, like Verdejo, that thrive in a Mediterranean climate. Warm days, gravelly soil, little rainfall are ideal conditions for Tempranillo, Tannat, Graciano and Verdejo. The distinctive, full-flavored Tinto Rey wines truly showcase the unique terroir of our estate vineyards. Our warm, dry Dunnigan Hills climate is a natural for Spanish wines. Our Tinto Rey brand focuses on Iberian varietals that perform well in the Dunnigan Hills climate."

Tasting Notes

Tinto Rey Verdejo
This refreshing and distinctive Spanish wine comes right from our estate vineyards. The 2017 Verdejo has aromas of apricot, peach, honeysuckle and just a hint of perfume. The palate is bright and luscious with flavors of citrus fruits, kiwi, starfruit and lemon tart. The unique step of barrel aging a portion of this wine in neutral oak makes it silky and complex on the palate with well integrated flavors.

Tinto Rey Rosé
The beautiful pale coral color and complex flavors of the 2019 Tinto Rey Rosé are the result of 100% co-fermentation of Tempranillo, Tannat and Verdejo. Fresh aromas of white peach lead to delightful flavors of strawberry, pear and cola. The finish has a refreshing zip of lime zest and pomegranate.

Tinto Rey Tempranillo
The heritage of the two Tempranillo clones in our Matchbook vineyards are pure Spanish: Ribera del Duero and Tinta de Toro. Those old-world vines grown in the Dunnigan Hills accentuate the best of both worlds. The aromas are an enticing mix of blueberry and saddle leather. Flavors of plum and black cherry mingle with pepper, tobacco and smoky paprika. The tannins are sturdy and balanced by the varietal’s characteristically smooth finish.

Tinto Rey Super Tinto Red Blend
The famed Tinta de Toro Tempranillo clone is the foundation of our Super Tinto Red Blend. This clone is from the warm Toro region of Spain and lives up to its bold, muscular moniker. We chose the most intense and flavorful lots of Estate Grown Petit Verdot, Tannat and Graciano to blend with the Tempranillo to create a unique Dunnigan Hills blend that tames the bull with finesse. Concentrated flavors of dried cherry, rhubarb, tobacco, cream and vanilla are layered over velvety tannins. The depth of flavors lingers in a rich, lush finish.
